Why are the schedules posted on www.highschoolsports.net

TIP: Register you and your son to receive e-mail / cell phone notification of game changes.

Where do I find the MHS Turf Schedule that tells me the football team’s practice schedule?

The MHS Athletic Department home page.

How do I purchase a season pass to the football games?

The MHS Athletic Department pre-sells season passes toward the end of August.  The Booster Club will send you an e-mail blast notifying you of the details.  Season passes can be purchased at the football games, however due to the growing community support for Friday Night Football the lines can be long.

Does my freshman son need to purchase a season pass?

No.  He should wear his game jersey to get in for home games ONLY!  If they attend an away game they will have to purchase a ticket unless they are helping the varsity on the sideline with the water and footballs.

How often should I check the web site?

            Off season: Once a week

            In season: Twice a week

What football equipment does MHS High School provide its players?

MHS provides, helmet, shoulder pads, practice pants, practice jersey, girdle, girdle pads, knee pads, thigh pads, belt and mouth piece.  Also, the booster club provides a t-shirt and shorts.  MHS supplies game socks as well.

What football equipment is the player responsible for providing?

Players need to have their own cleats and under shirts.  Players must have sneakers and cleats with them at all practices in case of inclement weather.  Practices are never cancelled due to weather.  We’ll practice indoors.

If my son needs help after school, what should he do?

Your son should go after school help first but make sure they get a signed note with the time they were finished by the teacher they were staying after with.  Most extra help should be done by 3:30 PM which allows each student to still practice over an hour.  The player cannot go home after extra help.  They must come see their head coach as soon as extra help is finished.

Are the freshman expected to be at the Friday night Varsity games?

Freshmen are expected to show up to home games, but it is not mandatory.

How many games will a typical freshman play in one season?

(9) Nine games are scheduled…we try to play everyone but that depends on each player’s situation.

Who plays in the sophomore games and how many are typically scheduled?

Sophomores.  Once in awhile, a freshman will be called due to an injury to a sophomore, but that rarely happens.

Do the sophomore players practice separate from the JV and Varsity?

No.  All sophomores, juniors and seniors practice together.  The freshmen practice separately so they can have time to adjust to high school.

Who plays in the JV games?

Generally, the sophomore and select juniors.

Who plays in the Varsity games?

The best players!

What is a 7 on 7 and who plays in them?

Sophomores, juniors and seniors.  A 7 on 7 is a non-contact game involving the QB’s, receivers, running backs, tight ends, linebackers and defensive backs.

 How should attend team/lineman practice?

Everyone should attend.

This varies from season to season.  Check website or contact Coach Milich.

What summer football camps do you recommend for my son?

            Freshman

Coach Milich’s Montgomery Recreation Non-Contact football Camp.

            Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors

This varies from season to season.  Traditionally, we go to the Rutgers Football Camp and our receivers and quarterbacks go to the Carty specialty camps.  Check the website or contact Coach Milich for specifics.

If my son has not played football before, how much playing time can he expect?

It depends on each individual.  Prior playing experience is not as important as someone who works hard and wants to get better.  Coach Milich did not play until his sophomore year of high school and then he went on to play for Rutgers University.

What GPA does my son need to maintain to participate in the MHS Football Program?

Coach Milich’s standards are higher than the State’s.  Each player is responsible for getting his teachers to complete a Football Progress Report and then it is returned to Coach Milich.    (5) Five negatives on a  Football Progress Report will result in a (1) one game suspension regardless of a player’s GPA.  Grades, Homework and Behavior are factored into this Football Progress Report. Progress Reports go out bi-monthly.

Do the coaches monitor my son’s academic progress during the season?

The coaches do monitor the players’ academics, but it is the primary responsibility of each parent to monitor their own child’s academic progress.  The coaches will help in any way, but do not rely solely on the coaches to do this.

My son plays a spring sport that also flows into the summer.  How should we handle the conflicts?

Each athlete can play any sport that they want, but the only problem Coach Milich has with the summer is that when an athlete is at home doing nothing.  He needs to be in the weight room or at the voluntary practices when not playing another sport.  Coach Milich encourages multi-sport athletes!

What should my son wear to the MHS Fall Athletic Awards Ceremony in December and the MHS Football team banquet?

Shirt and tie…NO sneakers or blue jeans!  Definitely NO hats allowed!

Will my son bring his uniform/practice uniform home for washing, or will the school provide this service?

Each athlete must bring his uniform/practice uniform home to wash.  It is recommended that these washings take place at least three times a week due to sanitary reasons.

My son is going to miss the first week of football due to a family vacation?  Is this ok?

This is not okay.  This is arguably the most important week of practice because most of the plays are put in during this week.  Most players are not allowed to play if they start late.  Talk to Coach Milich if there are extenuating circumstances that are unavoidable.

When is the best time to schedule a family vacation during the summer months?

The first two weeks in July, but anytime before mid August is perfectly acceptable.  Enjoy your summers!

Is it advisable for freshman families to schedule a vacation Teacher’s Convention week/weekend?

If the season is in progress then the answer is no.

What topics are appropriate to discuss with a coach?

Any topics are appropriate to discuss with Coach Milich.  Coach Milich has children of his own so he knows your child is very important to you.  If he or his staff can help in any way, please feel free to talk to him.

What is a combine

A combine is a series of physical tests usually involving the 40 yard dash, the shuttle run, and the bench press.  We do measure each player’s height and weight as well.  Other paid combines will use other tests such as the broad jump and vertical jump.  Most combines stress a skills session as well.

Who usually attends a combine?

The usual participants are our sophomores, juniors and seniors.  Sometimes we will invite certain freshmen to participate depending on if we invited them to varsity camp for the week.  The paid combines are either by invitation or by suggestion by Coach Milich, but all open combines are at the discretion of each athlete.

What happens if my son gets a detention?

Obviously, we would rather not cross that bridge but a detention could result in a one game suspension.  Many variables are taken into consideration such as practice time that may have been missed and the offense the athlete was punished for.

What type of information will I receive in an e-mail blast?

E-mail blasts are designed to provide parents and players information regarding Boost Club special events and activities surrounding Friday Night Football Games at MHS.  It is important that you open all e-mail from the club.  We will send you game date, time and location changes should they arise during the season.  YOUR SON is responsible for sharing any information learned from a coach at practice.  This information will not be covered in an e-mail blast.
